An intensive search for a missing man near Tayport resumed on Monday morning.
Broughty Ferry lifeboats were launched on Monday to continue their search for a the missing elderly man in the Tay near West Lights at Tayport.
They searched both north and south shores from the rail bridge to Buddon Point but did not find anyone.
The lifeboats ended their search at 12.30pm on Monday, shortly after police in North-East Fife issued an appeal for public help in tracing 71-year-old Val Smernicki.
Mr Smernicki was last seen around 7.45 pm on Sunday.
Since then the 71-year-old has not been in contact with friends or family and concern is growing for his welfare.
He is described as being 5 ft 11 inches tall, of slim build with short grey hair and clean-shaven. He wears glasses and when last seen was wearing a black hooded top, dark coloured trousers and black trainers.
Sergeant Neil Johnston of St Andrews police station said: “We are growing increasingly concerned for Val’s welfare since he is not in the best of health.
“Anyone with information is asked to please get in touch with us.
“Similarly if Val himself sees this appeal, we would ask him to contact us or his family to let us know he is safe and well.”

The lifeboats were initially called out at 8.54pm on Sunday but the search was called off because of poor light around two hours later.
While on their way to the search the crews received a second emergency call on Sunday from the Coastguard in relation to another incident on the Tay Road Bridge.
The smaller inshore lifeboat broke off from the initial call and made for that, leaving the all weather lifeboat to continue with the call to Tayport.
A short time later after being stood down at the incident at the road bridge, the inshore lifeboat was free to assist the all weather lifeboat off Tayport.
The additional XP lifeboat was also utilised to maximise the effectiveness of the search.
During Monday’s search, the lifeboat was diverted to Tayport harbour to help a dog in trouble.
