Two dog teams joined a Police Scotland search for missing man Walenty (Val) Smernicki yesterday.
The 71-year-old has been missing from his home at the west end of Tayport since around 7.45pm on Sunday and despite intensive searches by police and lifeboat crews, his whereabouts remain unknown.
Dogs and handlers from Search and Rescue Dog Association (SARDA) Southern Scotland joined police officers throughout the day to help locate Mr Smernicki.
He was last seen walking west towards the shoreline, and search operations are ongoing with water, land and air-based assets.
Mr Smernicki is described as being 5 ft 11 inches tall, of slim build with short grey hair and blue eyes. He may be wearing spectacles.
He was wearing a dark jacket, dark trousers and dark training shoes with a white sole.
Inspector Jim Davenport of St Andrews Police Station said: “We are focussing our inquiries in the area close to Val’s home address and we are still keen to speak to anyone who may have seen him since Sunday at 7.45 pm.”
Mr Smernicki’s family denied to comment last night.
Meanwhile, police are also appealing for assistance in tracking a Dundee man who went missing from Fife on Saturday.
57-year-old Gary Thomson, who lives in the city, was last seen by a family member at a Burntisland address on the morning of July 9.
Mr Thomson is described as white, around 5ft 10, slim build and short greying hair. When last seen he was wearing blue jeans, black ‘Under Armour’ top, grey ‘North Face’ jacket and brown shoes.
It is believed that Mr Thomson has access to a blue Peugeot motor car with registration number SP07 WSU and may be travelling in the areas of Dundee and Fife.
In particular, police would like to speak to anyone in the Grangemouth area of Fife, who may know Mr Thomson or may have seen a man matching his description.
Elsewhere, retired Dundee University lecturer Roger Fletcher, 77, remains missing after he failed to return from a walk near Dornie on June 5 while there on holiday.
He was last seen walking on the main trunk road of the A87 in his hillwalking gear and with walking poles.
Police are asking anyone with information regarding to any of the men’s whereabouts to contact them at any police office or to call 101.
