A new Home Bargains store in Dundee is set to open by the end of next year.
The outlet at The Stack Retail Park in Lochee will be built on the site of the former Odeon cinema.
Work to demolish the former picture house, which shut more than two decades ago, has now been completed.
The site is now covered with rubble, but will be cleared to make way for the construction of the new shop – which will begin in early 2023.
Home Bargains will move from its existing unit at The Stack to take up the new site.
Owner TJ Morris has not confirmed whether a new retailer will move into the vacated unit next to Aldi.
The new development will include a garden centre and cafe as well as creating 50 full-time-equivalent jobs.
TJ Morris was given the green light for the plans earlier this year, subject to 17 conditions, including paying towards a new pedestrian crossing on Harefield Road.
The store is also prohibited from selling restricted goods such as DIY items, carpets, jewellery, silverware, furniture and electrical items.
Work on Lochee Home Bargains planned for early 2023
Work to demolish the former Odeon cinema began in September.
The building had lain empty since the cinema closed in 2001, having opened only eight years earlier.
A spokesperson for Home Bargains said: “We are looking to start work on the store in January/February 2023 with a store opening planned for quarter four of 2023.”
The store is one of a range of new retail developments in Dundee.
That includes new Tesco and M&S stores in the city centre and an Aldi in Broughty Ferry.
A new Home Bargains opened at Myrekirk earlier this year.
