An elderly couple woke to find a female thief ransacking their Dundee home.
Police have issued an appeal for information after the burglar was disturbed by the couple at a home on Dundee’s Church Street in the early hours of Monday morning.
Officers say the crook, said to be aged between 25 and 29 years of age and wearing her hair in a bun, entered the house around 2:45am.
Despite her attempts being interrupted by the victims, the thief escaped with a Samsung tablet, jewellery, a purse, two figure sum of cash and personal items.
Bosses from sheltered housing operators Abertay have now taken to issuing flyers giving a description of the suspect and urging residents to keep their doors locked.
A spokesperson for Abertay Housing confirmed: “Following reports from police that one of our retirement housing tenants suffered a burglary in the early hours of the morning, we have sent a flyer around to residents to remind them to stay vigilant and keep their doors locked — together with a description of the suspect in case anyone can help the police identify the perpetrator.”
A similar break-in has been reported on nearby Main Street in which a 90-year-old man’s home was broken into.
A metal box containing medication, along with a jar of coffee was stolen from the property between midnight and 8.30am on Monday.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “In appealing for information to assist enquiries, Tayside Division would also warn of the dangers of consuming medication that belongs to another person.
“Clearly any medication can be dangerous if taken by someone other than the person it is prescribed to and if taken in unprescribed quantities.
