The Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) was in Dundee on Thursday to offer its expertise to budding local musicians.
Pupils enrolled on the city’s Music Centre programme were offered the chance to rehearse and perform with members of the Glasgow-based professional ensemble at the Caird Hall in what was described as the “chance of a lifetime” for the youngsters.
Both the RSNO and the Dundee Schools Symphony Orchestra (DSSO), of which some of the pupils are members, perform at the Dundee venue regularly.
The DSSO is preparing to play at the Caird Hall on Saturday, March 31.
Kenny Christie of Dundee City Council’s children and families service said: “We want to ensure that Dundee is one of the best places for a young person to grow up and this includes opportunities for all of our young musicians in the city.
“We are delighted to be further developing our partnership with the RSNO in providing this amazing opportunity for our pupils.
“In the national Year of Young People we want to celebrate a whole host of arts and culture opportunities and for a young musician it doesn’t come much bigger or exciting than this.”
Samantha Wright, the RSNO’s head of learning and engagement, added: “It is always a pleasure to work with these talented musicians and this method of learning really provides as close to a full, professional experience as you can get.
“Also, by assisting with others it often provides a fresh perspective for our own musicians. There is always something new to learn, even with the most frequently performed repertoire.”
