VIDEO: Major traffic delays in Dundee city centre after roads close for 3D Festival

Major routes around Dundee city centre are approaching gridlock after roads closed for the 3D Festival.

Long delays on the Tay Road Bridge.

Drivers had been warned to expect delays after Riverside heading west was close to all traffic during the 3D Festival, being held to celebrate the opening of V&A Dundee.

The closure means drivers heading towards Perth or the city centre from the bridge have to instead turn east and use a “Marketgait Loop” to get to their destination.

There are long delays around the West Port Roundabout, Marketgait, Dudhope Roundabout, Ladywell Roundabout, East Marketgait and Dock Street as drivers take the diversion route.

Heavy traffic at the Dudhope Roundabout.

The city is especially busy with thousands of people arriving to attend tonight’s concert by Primal Scream at Slessor Gardens.

One driver described the delays as “monstrous”.

She said: “Traffic is just not moving at East Marketgait.

“I was trying to get to the bridge and ended up having to go up to the Kingsway, then down on Dock Street and then down Greendykes Road to get onto Dock Street.

“Traffic is fine heading onto the bridge from there but everywhere else is monstrous.”

The Tay Road Bridge heading north into the city has been nose-to-tail for much of the day.

The road to the south of Slessor Gardens is closed until Saturday night as the city stages a weekend of events to mark the opening of  V&A Dundee.
