For a business to last over 150 years, it needs to be willing and able to adapt. And the latest change by the Dundee auctioneers has proved to be a hit.
Curr & Dewar moved from North Isla Street to their new premises on Tom Johnston Road, Broughty Ferry, last May and the business hasn’t looked back.
Director Clare Dewar said: “It was a big change to move after 14 years but it’s been fantastic, not just for us but our customers too.
“We’ve had fantastic feedback about how much more space there is and how much brighter our premises is now.
“Before we were in an old Victorian mill and were limited by pillars and the existing layout of the building – this is open and we can create great displays so customers can see items ‘in situ’ and get an idea of how it will look in their own homes.”
Clare added that the improved accessibility (including increased parking) has helped create a better auction experience all-round.
Curr & Dewar holds fortnightly auctions – with everything from toys and collectables right through to furniture and antiques often included.
Clare explained: “Because we work with customers who are moving home or downsizing, or having entire house clearances following a bereavement, we get lots of different items for auction.
“We have our own team and van and cover Tayside, Fife, Angus and Perthshire, so we can pick items up if that’s easier for the customer.”
The business’s house clearance service includes taking items for sale to the saleroom and disposing of any items they feel they cannot sell. They can then arrange for the house to be cleaned if required.
Curr & Dewar also offers a valuation service, where they can provide documents for probate, family division and insurance purposes, as well as for inclusion in auctions.
The next auction will be held on Tuesday, June 11 from 10am.
Viewing times will be on Saturday, June 8 from 10am-1pm, Sunday, June 9 from 10am-1pm and Monday, June 10 from 9am-5pm.
