Three members of a gang involved in high-value drug supply across Scotland have been jailed after police stopped and searched a car in Glenrothes.

Officers from the Organised Crime and Counter Terrorism Unit (OCCTU) stopped a Vauxhall Vectra car in the Fife town on May 24 2016 and recovered two kilos of amphetamine worth £20,000 and £60 worth of diazepam tablets.

A subsequent stop and search of a Transit van in Cumbernauld and a raid on business premises in Main Street, Cumbernauld, was carried out the following day.

That operation resulted in the seizure of around 17 kilos of cannabis worth over £59,000; 102 grams of cocaine worth around £4,000, 18 grams of amphetamine valued at around £200; and almost six kilos of cocaine and benzococaine worth £53,000.

As a result, Andrew McIntyre, 36, from Glenrothes, Martyn Edwards, 30, from Cumbernauld, and Craig McAllister, 32, also from Cumbernauld, were all charged under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

The trio pled guilty to drugs charges and were jailed for two years 11 months, seven years, and three years four months respectively at the High Court in Glasgow.

Detective Inspector David Wright, from the East OCCTU, said: “The significant quantities of drugs we recovered on May 24 and 25 last year indicate that McIntyre, Edwards and McAllister were heavily involved in the distribution of harmful substances across various communities.

“Acting on intelligence from the public, we carried out enforcement activity and seized these drugs before they could do untold harm to the public.

“The sentences handed to these men demonstrates the joint commitment of Police Scotland and our colleagues at the Crown Office in tackling organised crime and associated offences and ensuring those involved are brought to justice for their actions.”
