A male pedestrian has died after being struck by a Royal Mail truck during a late night crash in Fife.
Emergency services were called to the scene on the A823 (M) westbound slip road near Dunfermline at 12.40am on Saturday.
A 45-year-old man tragically died at the scene after being struck by a red DAF lorry.
The road was closed for more than six hours to allow for accident investigation work and a temporary diversion for traffic leaving the M90 at Junction 2 was put in place.
The slip road reopened shortly after 7am.
Royal Mail have confirmed they are assisting the police with their enquiries and have expressed their condolences to the man’s family.
Investigators are now appealing for witnesses who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “At around 12.40am on Saturday February 9, 2019, police and other emergency services attended a road traffic collision on the A823 M Rosyth road near to Junction 2.
“A 45-year-old male pedestrian sustained fatal injuries.
“Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident number 0131 of February 9, 2019.”
Sergeant Dominic Doyle of the Road Policing Unit added: “We are carrying out an investigation to establish the full circumstances and my thoughts are with the family of the man who died.
“We believe that he had been walking along the road towards Dunfermline but are keen to hear from anyone who was travelling in the area and might have seen him before the collision, or anyone else who may have witnessed the incident itself.”
A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “We are aware of the tragic events that occurred in the Fife area on Saturday morning.
“Our thoughts and condolences are with the families and friends of those involved.
“We are assisting the relevant authorities and cannot comment further while the investigation is underway.”
