The mother of Dundee murder victim Holly Alexander has branded the sentence handed down to her killer as “a joke”.
Krysztof Gadecki was ordered to spend at least 26 years in jail for the murders of Holly Alexander, 37 and Ronald Kidd, 40, in Rosefield Street in December last year.
A jury of 15 people took just 40 minutes to find the Polish national guilty of the murders.
He claimed he had acted in self-defence. After the guilty verdict was announced it was revealed Gadecki had a long history of violent crime, including rape, in his homeland.
The Home Office had tried to deport Gadecki in 2015 but he had been allowed to remain in the country while he appealed that decision.
Ms Alexander, a mother-of-three, was originally from the US but moved to Dundee with her estranged husband in 2014.
Her mother Lorraine DiPalermo, who still lives in New Hampshire, said: “This sentence is a joke.
“He should have gotten 100 years so he never even had a second of hope, like my daughter.”
Ms Alexander estranged husband Forrest branded Gadecki “a scumbag” and “an evil piece of garbage” following Tuesday’s verdict.
Detective Inspector Brian Geddes of the Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team in Tayside said : “Krzysztof Gadecki was an acquaintance of both Ronald Kidd and Holly Alexander.
“Motivated by his need for money and drugs, he brutally murdered them within their home.
“I’d like to thank everyone who helped us with the investigation, in what was a challenging enquiry.
“Our thoughts are with Ronnie and Holly’s families and friends. I hope this conviction brings some small degree of comfort to them.”
