Storm knocks out Ninewells Hospital phonelines

Flooding in Dundee.
Flooding in Dundee.

Patients were unable to call Ninewells Hospital after Saturday’s torrential downpour knocked out NHS Tayside’s phone lines.

It is understood medical equipment such as CT and MRI scanners were also affected by the thunder and lightning.

NHS Tayside has been asked to comment but posted on social media on Sunday morning that phone lines were back up and running.

Saturday night’s storms saw flash flooding across many parts of Dundee with Dundee Road, at its junction with Ralston Road, particularly badly hit.

Cars struggling to get through the flooded road at 8pm on Saturday.

However, the road was completely clear by Sunday morning.

Parts of Fife also experienced flooding during the dramatic storms.

A signalling issue linked to Saturday’s lightning strikes caused delays on the rail network between Dundee and Ladybank on Sunday morning and early afternoon.

Kirkcaldy and Cupar town centres were also badly hit by the downpours.

Car parks and businesses along the waterfront at Kirkcaldy were again under water, just days after the last deluge caused disruption in the same area.

Gym64 on the Esplanade had to close due to flooding and remained closed on Sunday as the clean up operation got under way.

Many communities also reported power cuts as a result of the thundery weather on Saturday evening, although none of the outages were prolonged.
