Council blames ‘inconsiderate drivers’ as parking ban brought in on nine rural Perthshire roads

Inconsiderate drivers are being blamed for new parking bans on nine rural Perthshire roads as tourists continue to flock to beauty spots in the region.

Perth and Kinross Council has brought in the new restrictions following a number of issues concerning visitors blocking off roads in Highland Perthshire, especially those close to lochs and Schiehallion.

The parking bans, which came into force on Saturday, will be implemented on the following roads: C450 Kinloch Rannoch to Tomphubil; A827 Aberfeldy Road, Kenmore; C451 from the junction with the A827 Kenmore to Aberfeldy road; Pier Road, Kenmore; C448 Fortingall to Bridge of Balgie; B487 Calvine to Trinafour; A923 Blairgowrie to Dunkeld; C430 Loch Clunie to Mains of Clunie and the C452 Foss to Pitlochry.

A spokesperson for the local authority said: “Inconsiderate drivers have been blocking roads in rural Perthshire by abandoning their vehicles on narrow roads.

“In some cases, this has caused considerable obstructions on roads, which has made it difficult for emergency vehicles and farm traffic to pass.

“We ask that all members of the public park responsibly and use designated parking areas.

“Any vehicles parked on these roads will be subject to enforcement action.

“If you are visiting the countryside, please consider the people who live there as well as other visitors.”

The local authority said it had brought in the measures after being satisfied that “there is a likelihood of danger to the public” caused by tourists abandoning their vehicles.

New signs will be erected warning motorists of the restrictions which will be in place for a maximum of 18 months.

Locals surrounding beauty spots have been complaining for months about the disruption caused by visitors to the area blocking of roads and ignoring signs.

In some incidents vehicles have been photographed parking directly in front of signs explicitly forbidding them from stopping there.

The move follows a similar urban clearway order on Linn Road at Stanley following a community campaign sparked by a series of incidents in which 999 crews were unable to get through.
