Delays likely as Friarton Bridge maintenance gets under way

Friarton Bridge.
Friarton Bridge.

Motorists planning to travel over the M90 Friarton Bridge are being warned they may face delays due to a single lane closure beginning this evening.

The measures will be in place so essential maintenance can take place on the crossing, which carries the motorway over the River Tay near Perth.

The works will take an estimated six weeks to complete and the majority will be carried out between 7.30pm and 5am in order to avoid peak travel times.

One lane will be closed on the southbound carriageway every night for safety reasons.

The southbound carriageway will also be completely closed for two consecutive weekends.

Traffic will be diverted to the northbound carriageway via a contraflow system from 8pm on March 13 until 6am on March 15 and again from March 20-22.

A third contraflow is scheduled for the end of the project so materials can be removed from the work site on April 24.

Andy Thompson, Bear Scotland’s north east representative, thanked motorists for their patience and encouraged them to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website and to allow extra time for their journeys.
