The team at the Bike Station in Perth are fundraising to secure their future.
The High Street bicycle repair service and shop has been allowed to reopen after being classed as an essential service, however with limited trade, the enterprise set up a crowdfunding page.
In the first couple of days one donor made a single contribution of £2,000 to the group, which has branches in Edinburgh and Perth. The organisation is also expecting to benefit from an extra £500 in Gift Aid.
Nearly £4,000 has been raised in total to protect the project, and management are offering repair kits, T-shirts and unlimited use of their workshops and tools in exchange for donations.
The charity, which is the biggest recycler of bikes in the UK, needs to raise £5,000 to re-open currently closed shops and to carry on selling good quality second hand bikes.
Chief executive Sasha Taylor said: “We are thrilled and deeply thankful that people have been able to support us so generously in such uncertain times.
“All of our staff and volunteers are working very hard to find a way to continue providing our core services, but we cannot do it on energy and determination alone.
“While the Scottish Government has recognised bike shops as essential services, now at the time when we are most needed, we are financially at our most vulnerable.”
The Perth branch has seven members of staff and 12 volunteers who have recycled more than 25,000 bikes since setting up shop in the Fair City in 2010.
The organisation which has been running for 20 years has a charity arm that leads bike rides, offers “Dr Bike” – bike fix-it sessions across the capital and Perth city centre as well as offering free bikes out on loan.
