Two Welsh farmers are set to pit their strength against some of Perthshire’s highland games elite on Saturday.

Aeron Pughe and Will Hendreseifion, both 36 and from Machynlleth, Mid Wales, will not only be tossing the caber and participating in other heavy events at Pitlochry Highland Games – they may also try their hand on the dancing board and give the bagpipes a blast.

The two best friends, who both farm beef and sheep on the hills of Bro Ddyfi, will be featuring in a programme being made by the Welsh language company Cwmnida TV, based in Caernarfon.

Alaw Llwyd Owen, the programme’s assistant producer, said: “This will be their first visit and experience of a Highland games event.

“As this is one of the last games of the season it made sense to visit the Pitlochry games.

“The local community have also been so welcoming, allowing us to become part of the whole event and preparations.”

Aeron and Will are no strangers to television as last year they lived side by side with Incas in Peru, experiencing and exploring their remarkable life in the Andes.

Mr Owen added: “They will be spending time with the local community during the days leading up to the games, and getting as many tips as they can on how to succeed in the heavy events, experiencing their first Highland dance class, and hopefully getting some insight into the skills of playing the bagpipes.

“By delving into the culture and traditions of the Highland games, getting involved in various aspects of their event, they look forward to learn and appreciate the passion and hard work that goes into organising and competing.”

Games Chieftain Charles Butter commented: “Pitlochry welcomes our friends from Wales who will add an interesting dimension to this year’s events.”
