It was a day of winter celebration for the Strathmore towns of Blairgowrie and Alyth.

Crowds turned out at both East Perthshire towns on Saturday as the Christmas lights were turned on within hours of each other.

In the afternoon, a parade left Rattray Cross and travelled via the High Street and Boat Brae before the switch-on in the Wellmeadow, Blairgowrie.

Later on it was Alyth’s turn.

A parade, led by Alyth Pipe Band, left the guide hut and made its way along Airlie Street to the town square.

Santa followed on his sleigh before switching on the lights. Perthshire Brass Band provided some of the entertainment.
