Outlander filming stops the traffic in Bridge of Earn

A busy Perthshire village played host to cast and crew of hit US TV series Outlander today.

The main route out of Bridge of Earn was closed to traffic for minutes at a time while camera crews worked at the River Edge Lodges.

Traffic is stopped on the main road as Outlander filming takes place at the River Edge Lodges, Bridge of Earn by Perth.

A chalet at the edge of the site was swathed in scaffolding and black curtains while filming took place inside.

Security staff were tight-lipped about which stars were on set, but locals said they believed several of the main actors were present.

Trailers for the show, which is currently filming its fourth series, were parked on Perth’s South Inch car park throughout the day.

More than a dozen trailers bearing a “Movie Makers” logo were parked up at the southern end of the site, with locals saying they had arrived on Wednesday night.

The news sparked a frenzy on social media, with many fans making plans to travel to the region in the hopes of seeing major cast members.

Sam Heughan, who plays 18th Century highlander Jamie Fraser, and Catriona Balfe, who plays his time-travelling wife, both have a dedicated fan following.

More than a dozen mobile homes provided by a film location company also appeared on Tuesday on a farm on the Stanley to Blairgowrie road near to Ballathie.

Outlander has also recently been filming near Crieff, with the town’s Market Park used as a base for the film crew.

Perthshire has previously featured in the Starz show, with the grounds of Drummond Castle, Rannoch moor and the interior of Tibbermore Church used as locations in the first series.

The show is currently filming its fourth series, which is set in North Carolina and sees Jamie and Claire settle into life in the colonies.

The third series is currently airing in the UK on online streaming service Amazon Prime and sees the main characters in a trans-Atlantic chase to rescue Jamie’s nephew Young Iain after he is kidnapped.
