Ten hardy souls are training to take on Britain’s highest mountain next month.

Not content with tackling the 4,411-foot Ben Nevis once, the Fit4Less Perth team will walk up and down the daddy of munros four times in 24 hours.

The feat, which will include staff and members of the Canal Street gym, is in aid of the Perth branch of Andy’s Man Club, a mental health support charity for men.

They will join other teams from across Britain taking part in the challenge on August 10 and 11, with all participants raising money and awareness for mental health.

Fit4Less Perth manager Tammy Fleuchar said: “Mental health does need awareness, especially for men.

“I think there is a lot more support for women than men and there’s this idea that men shouldn’t talk about mental health.

“That’s what Andy’s Man tries to change and we want to raise as much awareness as possible and show men that they can talk and support is out there.

“About 60% of our staff are male and a lot of them are young so it’s really important to me that they are supported.

“It’s definitely going to be a challenge but there are other groups doing it too so it will be good fun and it’ll be worth the challenge to support something so worthwhile.”

Andy’s Man Perth meets at 7pm every Monday at McDiarmid Park. The charity was set up two years ago in memory of Andy Roberts, a 23-year-old father-of-one from Halifax who committed suicide.

It started as a small group and now has branches in 15 towns and cities.

With Fit4Less team will start their first walk up Ben Nevis at 10pm on August 10, followed by another three at 6am, noon and 4pm the following day.
