Locals across Tayside and Fife woke up to wintry scenes this morning.

Heavy snowfall hit the area early on Tuesday morning with showers landing as far east as Dundee.

A Met Office yellow warning for snow and ice was in place until 11am with the forecaster warning of travel disruption and vehicle strandings.

On Tuesday morning the snow was so severe on the A93 Braemar to Perth road at the Spittal of Glenshee that lorries became stuck and forced the route’s closure.

Locally, Perthshire is the worst affected area with the snowfall also said to be affecting some rural routes in the area including the A827 Logierait to Aberfeldy road.

A large amount of snow also landed in the Angus Glens.

Up to 6in of snow possible as Met Office issues winter weather warning for whole of Tayside and Fife

Forecasters had initially warned that up to 6in of snow could land at the highest levels in the local area overnight.

Early on Tuesday morning, drivers across the area were warned to exercise caution on the roads as snow showers moved in.

Emergency gritters were dispatched to the highest routes in Fife overnight.

In Dundee, most of the snow had cleared by sunrise.
