Annie Lennox is the latest name to be added to the bill of a night of entertainment fundraising for a Dundee-based personal protective equipment (PPE) appeal.

For the Love of Scotland will be livestreamed on Wednesday as part of the Masks for Scotland crowdfunding initiative launched by Dundee University professor Jill Belch.

Hosted by DJ and TV presenter Edith Bowman, the showcase will include music, literature, poetry and chats with Scotland’s favourite stars, as well as community spirit stories submitted by the public.

The line up includes Carnoustie’s Alan Cumming, former St Johnstone footballer Ally McCoist, Fife singer KT Tunstall,  Sir Chris Hoy, Irvine Welsh and Judy Murray.

Professor Belch said: “The medical teams who protect us must be protected too.

“We know that the bigger the viral load, the worse the disease. Day in, day out, these teams are exposed to very high viral loads. We must help save their lives, the lives of their families and their patients by providing correct PPE.

“This fundraiser will save lives thank you so very much to all who donate.”

It is hoped the event, to be streamed live on Gigs in Scotland social media channels, will help Masks for Scotland reach its £200,000 target, as well as entertaining people across the country.

More than £80,000 has already been raised, with the first PPE orders expected to arrive in Scotland this week.

Fife’s Edith Bowman will host the event from 6 to 9pm and it will include a cocktail making class.

She said: “For the Love Of Scotland will be three hours of people coming together through music, prose, comedy, conversation and thanks, featuring both plenty of well-known faces and members of the public.

“I can’t begin to explain how grateful I am to all the people who are helping us out and giving up their time.”

The full line up so far is: Alan Cumming, Ally McCoist, Annie Lennox, Blue Rose Code, Sir Chris Hoy, Ian Rankin, Irvine Welsh, Jack Lowden, James McAvoy, Janey and Ashley Godley, Jean Johansson, Judy Murray, KT Tunstall, Lauren Mayberry (CHVRCHES), Lorne Balfe, Mark Bonnar, Martin Compston, Ncuti Gatwa, Peter Capaldi, Peter Mullan, Rachel Sermani, Richard Rankin, Sam Heughan, Sam McTrusty (Twin Atlantic), Sanjeev Kohli, Stuart Braithwaite (Mogwai) and Stuart Murdoch (Belle and Sebastian).
