The Health Secretary has admitted it will be years before a key waiting time target will be met in Scotland as she laid out an £850 million plan to improve performance.
Jeane Freeman said the Scottish Government will increase capacity and efficiency, while putting new models of care in place, to ensure patients receive treatment faster.
But she signalled the 12-week treatment time guarantee would continue to be missed until 2021.
Monica Lennon, for Scottish Labour, said: “It appears the government’s grand plan on waiting times is to keep on breaking its own law until 2021. This is astonishing.”
As part of the plan, the health secretary vowed to bring forward the opening date of the new £40 million elective treatment centre in Ninewells, which was previously put back to early 2022.
