A day after official confirmation that there will be a League One season beginning in October, Forfar manager Stuart Malcolm has started building his squad up for the new campaign.

Striker Scott Shepherd has agreed a two-year deal at Station Park.

The 24-year-old began his career with Falkirk. During his five-year spell there he had loan at Stirling Albion, Brechin City and Edinburgh City.

He spent two campaigns in the capital after moving there permanently and last season scored seven goals in 25 starts.

Malcolm believes Shepherd will give his team a new attacking dimension.

“Scott is quick, his work-rate is incredible and he’s always on the move,” said the Loons boss.

“He can play off the shoulder and stretch the game for us.

“It’s important that you have legs and energy up front, and he’ll score goals for us as well, no question about that.

“I’ve followed his career since he was at Falkirk. He’s been challenging at the top end of League Two with Edinburgh City and I’m delighted to get him.

“Steven Doris’s strengths are holding the ball in and getting us up the park and adding Scott gives us a real variety.

“It’s something we didn’t really have last season and hopefully we’re not finished with strengthening that area of the squad. We need to add one more.”

More signings are expected to be confirmed in the next few days. The League One season will start in mid-October.
