Forfar manager thrilled with two signings

Forfar manager Jim Weir is thrilled with his first two January signings – and hopes to make two more.

Getting defender Adam Eckersley from St Mirren was a real coup and Weir admitted that he was pleasantly surprised that the Station Park club were able to pull the deal off.

And he is also looking forward to the battle for the goalkeeping position, with the arrival of Daniel Hoban on loan from Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Weir said: “I’ve got to thank the board for the support they’ve given me.

“I’ve been looking for a left-sided defender for a while and to get a player of Adam’s pedigree is great.

“He’s played at a high level and won a championship with St Mirren recently.

“I know that he’s really hungry to keep playing and thankfully we were able to sell the club well to him.

“He’ll play against Stranraer tomorrow.

“It will be a few weeks before he’s fully match fit but the only way to get that sharpness is to play games.

“Daniel has been the number two keeper at Inverness but he wants to fight for a start here. It’s important that Marc (McCallum) has competition.

“I’m really pleased with the two I’ve got and hopefully I can get one or two more through the door.”

Forfar are seeking to make it three league wins in a row this afternoon.

Weir said: “We weren’t at our best last week but got the win. That hasn’t happened often this season. We’ve lost a few that we’ve been the better team in.

“Stranraer are a good team and we’ve struggled a bit against them so we know it will be tough for us to get our third win on the bounce.”

Lewis Moore is ruled out for the Loons.
