Duncan Ferguson would be interested in speaking to Dundee United about a sensational return to Tannadice as replacement for Jack Ross, Courier Sport understands.
It’s coming up for 30 years since the former Tangerines’ striker left the club for a playing career that took him to Rangers, Everton and Newcastle United.
Ferguson was on the coaching staff at Goodison Park for a number of years and had two spells as caretaker boss, most recently after Rafa Benitez was sacked.
He left the club in July in the hope of becoming a number one in his own right.

“Being a caretaker manager has given me confidence to step into management.”
The head coach role with United has become vacant in the wake of Ross’s dismissal.
And sources in England suggest that Ferguson is open to discussions with sporting director Tony Asghar about the possibility of going back to where it all began under the legendary Jim McLean.
Ferguson made his United debut at Ibrox in November 1990, coming on in the second half for Christian Dailly in a match the visitors won 2-1.
Both men had been in the team that lifted the BP Youth Cup earlier that year.
His final game was away to Falkirk in 1993, with United winning once more.
All in all, Ferguson’s career at Tannadice was a huge success, albeit punctuated by off-field drama and run-ins with McLean.
