Brechin boss Darren Dods is determined to finish what has been a season to forget on a high and take some momentum into the next campaign.
The Angus side are still without a win in the Championship, losing again on Saturday to Dumbarton at the Glebe.
Not for the first time this season, injury was added to insult with former Aberdeen midfielder Craig Storie, who only joined City last month after leaving the Dons, suffering a bad knee problem.
Brechin now face Dunfermline tonight at home with another defeat followed by a similar outcome to Morton on Saturday, officially consigning Dods’ side to the drop.
However, the manager is adamant his team will not be going down without a fight.
Dods said: It was really disappointing to lose three set-piece goals like we did on Saturday. There were a number of factors with the lads not reacting to second balls and things like that.
“Craig scored a great goal to get us right back into it and then we were awarded but missed a penalty.
“It just wasn’t to be for us and we now have another tough game against Dunfermline.
“As a part-time side, that means we will not have time to work on what went wrong from Saturday as unlike the Pars, we will not have trained before the game.
“That’s just one of the problems with having the two games in a week.”
Dods added: “We will just have to get on with it but we could definitely do with a change of luck.
“We lost Kosta Gadzhalov last week to a freak injury. He had done really well for us since coming in from Dundee on loan.
“He had played against St Mirren and was excellent – even in training he had looked really good.
“We thought we had picked up a real find but then he dislocated his shoulder against Dumbarton last week when he collided with our goalie and then hit the post.
“Now, we look to have suffered another big blow. Craig was another one who had looked good since he came in but he picked up a sore one on his knee in a block tackle on Saturday.
“We are keeping our fingers crossed but he could be out for the season.
“It is just the way our luck has been going this season and when you are down there, these things go against you.
“But we always try to be positive. This has been the first chance for most of our players to perform at this level and hopefully we can pick up some results between now and the end of the season to take momentum into the next campaign.
“Dunfermline are still trying to secure a promotion play-off spot and they will come to the Glebe determined to pick up three points.
“However, we did OK when we last played them at East End Park, narrowly losing 2-1.
“So we will look to be as competitive again and hopefully this time our luck will finally change.”
Storie, Andy Jackson and Ryan McGeever will all miss out however Aron Lynas returns from suspension.
