Nat Wedderburn admits there is only one target for Raith this season and he knows it will be far from easy to achieve.
Rovers are one of the strong favourites to win League 1, especially as they are the only full-time team in the division.
However, Wedderburn, who has also played for Inverness, Cowdenbeath and Dunfermline, knows that is no guarantee of success.
The 27-year-old is confident though that there is enough quality within Barry Smith’s Stark’s Park squad to realise the promotion dream with the first home League 1 game of the campaign taking place this afternoon against Stenhousemuir.
And Wedderburn is certainly delighted to be at Raith after his time with the Pars was cut short in June.
He said: “I got told so late on at Dunfermline. I only found out three days before they returned for pre-season so I just had to get something sorted.
“It wasn’t ideal and I would have preferred to have known a lot earlier.
“That’s seems to be the way things go in football these days.
“I had a training session with Arbroath as I know one of the boys there Tom O’Brien just to keep ticking over.
“I then got a phone call from the manager (Smith) and with me living in Dunfermline with my family coming to Raith was ideal.
“I just spoke with the gaffer and took it from there.
“The aim is to win the league.
“You can see the quality we have in the squad so if we can keep everybody fit we have a very good chance of doing that.
“The rest of the league may be part-time but a lot of the teams have lads who have played full-time
“So we know it is not going to be easy at all.”
Today’s match will be the first to be played on Raith’s new artificial surface but Wedderburn is confident the players will take it all in their stride.
He said: “We started training on it on Monday. It will take a bit of getting used to but once we get the sprinklers on it, I think it will be a bit better.
“This is the first time I have played for a club with an artificial pitch but I am used to training on these surfaces for the last two years.”
