Such was the high after ending Forfar Athletic’s 100% league record a fortnight ago, Paul Hegarty would have been delighted if his Montrose team had been playing the following Tuesday.
So it goes without saying that an international break, and a couple of weeks off, wasn’t what he was after.
But the experienced Links Park manager is still hoping to tap into the positive vibe that their coupon-busting Angus derby win has created.
Hegarty, whose side face Elgin City at home today, said: “The boys were on a real high after the Forfar game and you could still see it in training that week.
“But we can’t do anything about the break and hopefully we’ll be able to get straight back to playing well.
“We’re all looking for consistency in this league and I’m no different.
“There has been a steady improvement over the last few games and we want that to continue.
“This will be a tough game, though. Elgin played last weekend and are second top.”
Andrew Steeves and Dave McKay will both miss out through injury.
