Tommy Wright has admitted it is “quite remarkable” Sunday’s red card for Murray Davidson was his first in a St Johnstone shirt.
The 31-year-old made his 343rd appearance against Aberdeen and in his 10 years at McDiarmid Park has never been afraid of putting his body on the line for the Perth cause.
He got his timing wrong with his second half challenge on Craig Bryson at the weekend, however, and will sit out Saints’ weekend trip to Motherwell, along with team-mate Callum Hendry who was also sent off.
Perth boss Wright hasn’t changed his opinion that there was no ill intent on the part of the former Livingston man.
“Murray was unfortunate,” he said. “He caught their player just above the ankle and it was a red card.
“He was late but i It wasn’t malicious. He was genuinely going for the ball.
“Murray is a real competitor in midfield and puts himself in where it hurts.
“So it is quite remarkable that this was his first red card for the club after so many games.”
