A series of accidents in Fife have caused chaos on the roads.

Two separate crashes on the M90 caused long tailbacks for motorists.

Three cars collided at the Masterton junction at Rosyth at 2pm, causing queues back to Halbeath.

An hour later five cars were involved in a smash on the southbound carriageway at Pitreavie junction.

No one was seriously hurt in either but one person was treated by paramedics in the second incident.

Drivers had to use the hard shoulder to get by and the delays, which stretched into the rush hour period, were exacerbated by the extra traffic caused by people travelling to and from Edinburgh Festival.

Traffic was reported stretching back five miles almost to the Kelty junction and caused knock-on problems for those using the A92.

Two people were hurt when two cars collided on the B9157 Orrick Quarry Road around a mile from Aberdour.

A man and woman were taken to hospital, although their injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

The road was blocked for a while after the incident just before 3.30pm.

There was also drama on the A92 at Glenrothes.

A female driver and her passenger escaped injury after the vehicle they were travelling in ended up on its side.

The incident happened at around 1.45pm on the northbound dual carriageway between the Preston and Bankhead roundabouts.
