Motorists face more delays on the busy M90 with another set of roadworks beginning on Wednesday.
A 5omph contraflow traffic system will be in place on the southbound stretch of the road between junctions six (Kinross) and five (Gairneybridge) to allow surfacing improvements costing £475,000 to take place.
The traffic authority has confirmed that this will be the sixth resurfacing scheme to have used a contraflow traffic system on the M90 Inverkeithing to Perth motorway since 2016.
A spokesperson for BEAR Scotland said: “Over £2.2 million has been invested into upgrading sections of the concrete carriageway in the past two years between junctions five and eight on the M90.
“We always try to minimise disruption as much as possible when upgrading the road surface, so we carry out multiple projects under one traffic management set-up to reduce the overall impact to road users.”
Andy Thomson, BEAR Scotland’s north-east representative, added: “Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as possible, and we encourage motorists to plan their journey in advance and check the Traffic Scotland website before setting out.”
However, Liz Smith, a Scottish Conservative representative for the Mid Scotland and Fife ward, questioned the timing of the latest set of roadworks on the M90.
“Whilst it’s important that the M90 continues to benefit from essential surface work improvements, motorists will surely question the frequency of these works and the impact on commuters,” she said.
“For many drivers it seems as though no sooner has one scheme ended then another is starting and BEAR Scotland should seriously consider the spacing of these works in order to reduce delays and driver frustration.
“It is important that these latest improvements progress smoothly and that means no tailbacks.”
The 50mph contraflow traffic system will be in place by 6am on Wednesday, with the roadworks due to be completed by June 8.
