Too Good To Go: What did I get in my £5 mystery bag from Little Things Cafe in Dundee?

This week’s mystery bag is a cute and slightly spooky offering from Little Things Cafe on Reform Street in Dundee.

After spying the venue had a bag to secure on the Too Good To Go bag app I impulsively decided to confirm it and then hurried to picked it up within the half an hour timeslot later that Monday afternoon.

As part of my ongoing Too Good To Go series, I like to reserve a bag from a venue in The Courier circulation area and review the contents.

With Halloween taking place that night (October 31), I was hoping for a last minute spooky cake would be on the cards. The cafe is well-known for its baked goods, and who doesn’t love a treat on Halloween?

As I approached the cafe it was decked out with decorations for the event and on entering, I was even inside was covered with ghouls and cobwebs.

I had previously met the shop manager so requested my bag from them and headed off home to check out what tasty bargains I may have secured.

What was in my mystery £5 bag?

Once I got home, I opened my mystery bag to find five smaller brown sustainable bags filled with some treats.

Upon looking inside I found Halloween-themed bakes from their fresh daily bakes cabinet.

All of the sponges were vanilla with a vanilla buttercream sponge, which were then designed with gummy sweets, cookies or a party ring.

What I loved the most about the cupcakes were how well they were decorated with the Halloween theme in mind, and the range of the selection was excellent, too.

General pricing of items

I have based the prices on the cost of each cupcake being around £3 in the cafe, as well as listing each flavour below.

  • 1 x cookies and cream cupcake
  • 1 x party ring with sprinkles cupcake
  • 2 x googly eyes with jam cupcakes
  • 1 x teeth with vanilla cream cupcake

Total cost of bag: £5

Total cost of goods: £15

Total savings: £10

Was it worth it?

Considering the cafe was so close to home and it was a quick trip out to pick up the bag, I think it was definitely worth the visit for me.

I enjoyed being able to try some of the Halloween bakes from the venue as well as see what other bakes and food they have to offer.

I also think the £10 saving was great and I was able to enjoy freshly baked cakes at a reduced price, and able to allocate that saved money to my next Too Good To Go purchase.
