A Forfar woman was attacked by two men as she walked home in the early hours of Sunday.
The victim suffered minor cuts and bruises and was left badly shaken by the attack.
Police Scotland have said they are looking to trace two men of Asian appearance in connection with the inquiry, who they believe were captured on CCTV drinking in a town centre hotel earlier on Saturday night.
The assault took place as the woman was walking home in Arbroath Road around 2.40am on Sunday.
A police spokesman said the men initially approached the woman and spoke to her, before she was grabbed by the arms and head.
“She did very well in getting the men off, and managed to get away from them. She suffered minor cuts and bruises, and was very shaken,” police added.
“Officers are very keen to speak with two men about the incident.
“The first is of Asian appearance, with dark brown hair and of medium build, wearing a tan jacket.
“The second, also of Asian appearance, has dark brown hair, a thin beard and was wearing a thigh length black leather jacket and a white baseball cap.
“Both spoke with what sounded like foreign accents.”
Police said a review of CCTV has shown that the pair may have spent some time in the Royal Hotel bar prior to the incident.
“If anyone has any information which could assist with our enquiries, please call 101 or speak to any Police officer,” said the spokesman.
