A dad ranted at his estranged daughter and threatened to murder her stepfather after she turned down his Facebook friend request.
Peter Deans has been ordered by a court to stay away from his adult daughter after he sent her a series of voicemails and texts that were “grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character”.
The court heard he made abusive remarks following an unsuccessful attempt to reconcile with the Perthshire woman – now in her 20s – who he had not seen since she was a toddler.
Fiscal depute Elizabeth Hodgson said Deans got back in touch with his daughter in 2017.
“The messages he sent to her on social media stated that the accused was going through a hard time,” she said.
“The complainer replied that she was trying to avoid any arguments and that she didn’t want anything to do with him.”
Abusive messages
Ms Hodgson told the court: “On November 28 2019, the accused sent the complainer a friend request on Facebook.
“The complainer did not accept it.
“She messaged the accused and said she still did not want anything to do with him.”
Later that day, she received a voicemail from Deans calling her “a horrible little b******.”
Ms Hodgson said: “He stated that if she wanted to get nasty with him, he would get nasty with her.”
The fiscal depute told the court: “The accused sent another two voice notes, which featured a lot of swearing.”
In one message, Deans told his daughter he would cut her stepdad “into pieces”.
Ms Hodgson said: “The complainer was very concerned about the messages and was scared for her stepfather’s safety.
“She reported the messages to police.”
Deans, of Falkland Drive, Glasgow, pleaded guilty to directing abusive remarks towards his daughter and uttering threats of violence.
Solicitor Paul Ralph, defending, said his client is “clean and sober now” and has stayed out of trouble.
Sheriff Charles Lugton said: “I think it is appropriate to deal with this with a financial penalty.”
Deans was fined £400 and was told to have no contact with his estranged daughter as part of a year-long non-harassment order.
