Seven jihadists have been jailed for life for their role in horrifying terrorist attacks in Tunisia which claimed the lives of 60 people, including a couple from Perthshire.
Billy and Lisa Graham, from Bankfoot, were among the 38 people – mostly British tourists – murdered at the Riu Imperial Marhaba Hotel in June, 2015.
Jim and Ann McQuire from Cumbernauld were also killed during the gun and grenade rampage.
Prosecutors in Tunisia confirmed on Saturday that four people have been given life sentences for the shooting, while other defendants were sentenced between six and 16 years.
Three others were jailed for life for an earlier attack at Tunisia’s Bardo Museum, in which 21 foreign tourists and a security guard was killed.
Islamic State claimed responsibility for both atrocities.
A state of emergency has been in place ever since.
Scotland’s Justice Secretary Humza Yousaf said he hoped the families of those killed could take some comfort from the sentencing.
He said: “Today is a day to remember all of the victims of this senseless and cowardly terrorist attack and my thoughts, prayers and heartfelt condolences are with their families and friends at this incredibly difficult time.
“I hope that the families of James and Ann McQuire, from Cumbernauld, and Billy and Lisa Graham, from Bankfoot, can take some comfort from the fact that these perpetrators have been brought to justice.”
An inquest heard that Mr and Mrs Graham had been celebrating their 31st anniversary – and Mrs Graham’s 50th birthday – when terrorists attacked the beach.
Mr Graham, 51, who served for 22 years in the 5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards, and his wife tried to escape from gunfire by leaving through a doorway next to the reception area.
The inquest head that Mrs Graham was a very caring and thoughtful woman who loved to laugh.
Mr Graham, who volunteered for St Johnstone FC in his spare time, was described as happy-go-lucky.
The pair were among 20 to 25 people who tried to escape through the hotel corridor.
Around 500 people attended a memorial service in July 2015.
