A punter injured a man in a row over an ice cream cone during one of Scotland’s most prestigious race meetings, a court heard.
Ryan Burry was ordered to pay his victim £500 and fined £900 after he admitted carrying out the assault during the Gold Cup meeting in Perth.
Burry, 21, was talking to his victim when the ice cream cone became the centre of the row and a small amount of it landed on Burry’s shirt.
Perth Sheriff Court was told the welder flew into a rage and rained punches on Mr Stockman until he was left injured on the ground outside the racetrack toilet.
Burry, of Findhorn Street, Dundee, admitted assaulting and injuring a man by repeatedly punching him on the head at Perth Racecourse on June 3.
Depute-fiscal Michael Sweeney said Burry became “involved in a verbal altercation” with another man. After pointing an ice cream cone at him, he punched the man “several times.”
He said other people got involved and the victim was dragged to the ground while the incident was reported to police who arrived and arrested Burry.
