NHS Tayside is welcoming hundreds of new and returning nursing and midwifery staff to help support clinical teams during the coronavirus outbreak.
Around 250 final year nursing students have already joined the workforce this week to undertake a paid practice placement.
A further 220 second year students are currently being placed in roles within NHS Tayside.
The students will continue to develop their nursing skills, with supervision and assessments, and will have completed a national induction and essential learning package before starting in their placements.
NHS Tayside has also welcomed more than 40 nurses and midwives who have come out of retirement or returned to the service to care for patients once again.
Director of Nursing and Midwifery Claire Pearce said: “I will be meeting with our new and returning staff members in the coming weeks to personally thank them for stepping forward to support NHS Tayside at this difficult time.
“As highly skilled individuals, we know that they will make a significant difference to our efforts during the COVID-19 period and I am so grateful that they are joining our nursing and midwifery teams to help care for our patients.
“I’d also like to thank all of our nurses and midwives who are working tirelessly during this pandemic.
“They have shown great flexibility and a willingness to learn new skills, and I have been really impressed by their efforts so far.”
