Hilltown residents were not in any danger, despite the presence of emergency personnel in hazmat suits at a suspected chemical incident on Tuesday.
Police Scotland said it had taken “precautionary measures” as officers attended at Dundee’s Dallfield Court, watched by shocked locals.
A major response, involving the police and the Scottish Ambulance Service was deployed after reports of “concern for a man’s safety”.
Officers in protective clothing were seen entering a block of flats at around 11am, focussing their attentions on one property.
A man was subsequently taken to Ninewells Hospital for treatment and neighbours raised concern that he may have been producing a chemical within the flat.
Motorists and pedestrians were briefly diverted away from the scene, though there was no evacuation of neighbouring homes and no official cordon.
Police Scotland indicated that this was evidence that concern over the nature of any substances within the property had been short-lived and the specialist equipment worn by some entering the flat merely a precaution.
It is understand that an as yet unidentified substance was seized from the property, but a spokeswoman for Tayside Division said there was no cause for concern.
Police Scotland said: “Along with other emergency services, officers attended at an address in Dundee’s Dallfield Court, Dundee at 11am on Tuesday, following concern for a man.
“He was taken to Ninewells Hospital for treatment and there was no risk to the public.”
