Romantic groom’s proposal brings Reform Street to standstill

A romantic groom brought Reform Street to a standstill on Saturday when he proposed to his long-term girlfriend.

Sean McKellican, 35, popped the question to partner of five years Lyndsey Sellars, 34, outside Dundee’s famous Pancake Place restaurant.

Fearless Sean, who regularly dines in the eaterie with his other half, marched the length of Reform Street with friend and piper Davie Hunter before getting down on one knee.

To both his and the watching crowd’s relief, an emotional Lyndsey immediately said yes.

Speaking seconds after his public proposal, a delighted Sean told The Courier: “We’ve been together for about five and a half years.

“We’ve had a torrid time the last couple of years though.

“I’ve been carrying the ring around for the last six weeks and was looking for a specific moment.”

Sean continued: “I’ve not got a date in mind yet, but I’m quite sure Lyndsey will.

“I’m expecting there to be a folder to be sitting there when I get home which will tell me where, when and what I’m wearing.

“I’ll be getting told what’s happening. I’m just delighted.”

An overwhelmed Lyndsey revealed she had only expected to meet Sean and her friend for a spot of lunch.

“We just came here to be bad and have some pancakes,” she said.

“I didn’t expect this at all. I’m totally overwhelmed. It’s a real surprise.”

Piper and long-term friend Davie Hunter added: “This is the first time I’ve ever done this.

“Sean messaged me on Facebook and asked me if I was free this weekend.

“The national championships are on in Paisley next week, so I was able to help today.”

Pancake Place manager Louise Graham said: “I think we were all more excited than Lyndsey.

“Everyone knew she was coming, so people had taken their breaks and some regular customers hung back to watch.

“We gave them a bunch of flowers and a special pancake with flowers on it.

“It was all really good.”
