Bus driver accused of running red light and hitting pedestrian

A Dundee bus driver is to stand trial accused of causing a young woman “severe injuries” after running her down when he sped up through a red light in the city.

Alistair Forbes appeared at Dundee Sheriff Court to face a charge of dangerous driving causing severe injury.

It is alleged that while driving a bus in Broughty Ferry’s Queen Street, at the junction with Fort Street, Forbes “increased the speed” of the Stagecoach double decker bus as he approached an amber light.

Prosecutors say it turned red before he sped through it, before colliding with Keira Duff, 20, of Dundee, who is said to have been severely injured.

Forbes, 58, of Queen Street, Dundee, denies a charge on summary complaint of dangerous driving causing serious injury allegedly committed on April 6 last year.

Solicitor advocate Jim Laverty, defending, said Forbes would plead guilty if the charge was reduced to careless driving.

Fiscal depute Matthew Kerr refused that plea and asked that trial dates be set on the dangerous driving charge.

Sheriff George Way set a trial date in March and ordered Forbes to attend a pre-trial hearing in February.
