People living on a Dundee street where a driver caused a five-car crash then fled the scene say it is lucky nobody was killed.

Police have launched an investigation following the collision on St Kilda Road shortly after 11pm on Saturday.

Four parked vehicles were damaged.

Witnesses say a car pulled out and hit a stationary vehicle, causing that to crash into more parked cars on the street.

Concerned residents of the street said they heard a “big bang” after the car came on to the street from St Boswells Terrace in the St Mary’s area.

In the seconds after the collision the driver and a “barefooted” woman reportedly fled the scene, alongside another passenger.

‘It was like dominoes falling’

One neighbour said: “The vehicle exited out of St Boswells Terrace, some of my neighbours said it nearly hit a Eurobin first as it drove up in St Kilda Road.

“The vehicle then veered back over the road and hit one motor and it was like dominoes falling after that.

“The driver and the two occupants fled the scene.

“One of the passengers ran up St Kilda Road.

“The driver and a barefooted woman ran back along St Boswells Terrace and the emergency services were here thereafter.”

She added: “There were police dogs and fire engines.

“I’m not sure how fast they could have been going to have exited St Boswells Terrace and travelled such a short distance up St Kilda Road.

“They’ve caused some amount of damage.

“The reality is someone could have been killed.”

Another resident said she left her home in the immediate aftermath to see what happened.

‘One car looked to have been written-off’

She said: “I was in my bed when I heard a bang.

“I’ve come out and seen the vehicle was empty and the damaged caused to the others.

“I dread to think how fast they were potentially going to have knocked one vehicle back into three other cars.

“The folk who own these cars must be rightfully angry about what’s happened.

“One car looked to have been written-off and possibly more of them will be.”

Police appeal after St Kilda’s Road crash

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 11.20pm on Saturday, police were called to St Kilda Road, Dundee, following a report of a car crashing into a number of parked vehicles.

“A total of five vehicles were damaged in the incident.

“There was no trace of a driver in the area and enquiries to trace them are ongoing.

Anyone with information is urged to call police on 101, quoting incident 4590 of 10 September.”
