Two women rescued from River Tay near Discovery Point in Dundee

Two women have been rescued from the River Tay near Discovery Point in Dundee.

The coastguard received a call just after midnight about the emergency at the city’s Waterfront.

Crews from Broughty Ferry’s RNLI station were sent to the scene and recovered the pair from the water.

One of the women was taken to hospital.

It has not been confirmed how the women ended up in the river.

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said: “We received the call at 12.22am of two persons in the water at Discovery Point in Dundee.

Broughty Ferry lifeboat station was immediately alerted and both of the station’s boats launched.

“Two people were successfully recovered from the water a short time later and handed over to the Scottish Ambulance Service.

“Both crews were then stood down and returned to station at 1.25am.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 12.20am to reports of two women in difficulty in the River Tay, near the Discovery in Dundee.

“Coastguard attended, and both women were recovered safely.

“One was taken by ambulance Ninewells Hospital for treatment.”
