‘Inquiries ongoing’ and police watchdog informed after woman found injured in Dundee dies in hospital

A police watchdog is investigating after a woman who was found injured in Dundee died in hospital.

Officers were called to Charleston at about 6.45pm on Wednesday following concern for a woman in her 50s.

She was said to be injured and was taken to Ninewells Hospital where she later died.

The incident is not said to be suspicious, however it has been referred to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC) who are also investigating the circumstances leading up to the woman’s death.

It is understood the woman had struggled with paramedics and police who came to her aid.

Police have not confirmed the address where the woman was found.

A statement from the force reads: “Police Scotland attended an address in the Charleston area of Dundee around 6.45pm on Wednesday, June 26 following concern being reported for an injured woman in her 50s.‎

“She was taken to Ninewells Hospital where she sadly died. Inquiries are ongoing into the incident, but there are no apparent suspicious circumstances.

“Police Scotland has referred the incident to PIRC for review, and therefore no further comment can be provided.”

Tayside Police Division say they will not be commenting any further on the incident.

A spokeswoman for PIRC’s investigations team said: “We are investigating the circumstances leading up to the death of a woman in Dundee on Wednesday 26 June 2019.

“Police attended following reports of an injured woman in her 50s. She later died at Ninewells Hospital.

“As is standard procedure, the incident was referred to us by the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) and our report will be submitted to them in due course.”
