Burntisland Highland Games, the second oldest in the world, has been scrapped.
Apart from during the two world wars, it’s the first time since the event was first staged in 1652 that the town’s Highland Games will have not taken place.
The Scottish Highland Games Association’s annual games schedule has now been all but wiped out.
The 368th Highland Games had been due to take place on July 20 on Burntisland Links.
In a double blow for the town, organisers of Burntisland Civic Week, which includes the town’s annual gala parade, have announced it has also been cancelled.
Libby Donovan, chairwoman for the Civic Week, said: “Months of planning is required to hold these events and with the uncertainty we feel it’s the correct thing to do to protect our volunteers and our local community.
She said next year’s Civic Week would take place between June 18 – 27, 2021.
