A Fife charity is continuing to support its community during the Covid-19 crisis thanks to National Lottery funding.
Kingdom Off-Road Motorcycle Club has received £3,114 from the National Lottery Community Fund to sustain its activities and help home-schooling efforts.
The club is providing online motorcycle maintenance sessions which will allow young people and their parents to fix and maintain their own motorbikes.
An online ‘Workshop Workout’ has also been created, giving people off-road motorcycle-related fitness involving lifting motorcycle tyres and doing press-ups or knee-lifts, wearing heavy motocross boots.
The club is also providing a ‘Meet the Pros’ question and answer session for young people to get advice from professional and elite riders.
Kingdom Off Road Motorcycle Club’s project manager Dave Paton said: “With children and young people currently being off school due to the Covid-19 crisis, it must be difficult for families self-isolating, and with some, education unfortunately may not be their priority.
“Our charity is providing interesting online learning opportunities, basic motorcycle mechanics, some of which can be accredited via Youth Scotland Awards.
“Additionally, we are encouraging young people to keep their health and wellbeing a priority, by hosting two weekly online physical exercise sessions – these are off-road motorcycle sport related.
“These additional funds from the National Lottery Community Fund will help us to continue our efforts and be ready to respond when restrictions ease.”
The club was set up with the aim of providing a controlled environment for youngsters to ride their motorcycle legally, while at the same time looking to change people’s attitudes and values and encourage the social use of motorcycles.
Neil Ritch, Scotland director of the National Lottery Community Fund, said: “I would like to congratulate Kingdom Off Road Motorcycle Club on the work they are doing.
“Theirs is an important project that will support people now during the current crisis, and in the future when they can physically come back together to make great things happen in their community.”
