A Fife nurse has won a Scottish Children’s Health Award for her work in developing services for young people.
NHS Fife development worker Tara Irvin was presented with the Healthcare Rights Award in recognition of the difference she is making to children’s health and wellbeing.
The accolade, awarded by the charity Children’s Health Scotland, celebrates the extraordinary steps taken by a practitioner to advance the healthcare rights of children and young people.
Tara said: “Working directly within children’s services has allowed me to support colleagues, promoting the rights of children, young people, their parents and carers, recognising they should be central to our assessments, interventions and planning.
“I am very lucky to have both a very supportive management team and colleagues who are also champions of children’s rights.
“I couldn’t do the work I do without any of them, or the children and young people I have the pleasure of working with.
“I feel this reward isn’t just for me, it is for everyone within community children’s services.”
She was nominated by colleague Jennifer Grant, who said Tara ensured children’s voices were paramount.
“She never loses sight of keeping the child or young person as the focus of her work,” she said.
