Thieves have stolen more than £20,000 of equipment from a Fife agricultural services yard.

Expensive GPS equipment and control boxes were among the items taken from J Low Agri Services Limited’s premises at Kelty Industrial Park in Cocklaw Street on Wednesday night.

Owner James Low said the culprits entered the yard at around 9.20pm on Wednesday before forcing their way into a tractor.

The thieves removed the navigation controller along with the receiver from the roof, and also stole two control boxes for the yard’s demonstration Pottinger and Claydon drills.

Due to the nature of the items taken, there are concerns that the theft was pre-planned and targeted, and police are appealing for information which may lead to the stolen items and those responsible.

The Kelty company, which started life in 2002, provides varied agricultural services to ocustomers, from tractor sales, engineering, fabricating, hire of machinery, sale of new and used machinery to supplying parts and consumables.

It also carries out repairs on farm and construction machinery, and opened a dedicated parts store in 2012.

It relocated to its current premises just off junction 4 on the M90 at Kelty five years ago, and it is hoped its location next to the main motorway might jog the memory of someone who was in that area around the time of the incident on Wednesday.

Anyone who can provide any information should contact J Low Agri Services Limited on 01383 830220 or Police Scotland on 101.

This week’s incident appears to be just the latest in a spate of rural-related crime across Fife.

Police are hunting those responsible for the theft of a black Land Rover Freelander from the Anstruther area at some point on Sunday October 11, while officers are also investigating reports fuel has been syphoned from a vehicle in a field near to the Standing Stane Road, Leven.
