Dunfermline Athletic launch probe into players party trip brawl

Dunfermline Athletic has launched an urgent investigation following reports that two players came to blows whilst on a celebratory sunshine break.

Reports at the weekend suggested that defender Ben Richards-Everton, 24, and midfielder Lewis Spence, 20, were involved in an exchange on a trip to the resort of Magaluf in Majorca.

The short break for the squad is thought to have been sanctioned by the club after it successfully secured the League One title.

With the players having now returned to Scotland, the club’s managing director, Ross McArthur, said that the matter would be dealt with in-house.

In a statement released via the club’s website, he said: “Our club has reacted to this matter very quickly, and a full investigation is already under way with a number of meetings being held.

“We simply cannot condone such behaviour and are deeply disappointed that any such incident took place.

“The matter will be dealt with privately, and on conclusion of the investigation appropriate action will be taken.

“Our club will not make any further comment on this matter.”

Richards-Everton, formerly of Tamworth and Airdrie, was an established part of manager Allan Johnston’s first team squad that cantered to League One glory.

The 6ft 5 in Englishman made more than 30 appearances last season, scoring twice as the Pars strolled to title success by 18 points.

Spence has been hotly-tipped for success at Dunfermline Athletic after making his first team debut at the age of 17.

To date he has worn the black and white stripes on 38 occasions, however, he spent the second half of the season on loan at Brechin City, a spell that included scoring a wonder goal against Airdrieonians in March.

His contract is believed to expire at the end of the month.
