Solicitor Aamer Anwar reads a statement to the media outside the Crown Office in Edinburgh after family members of the late Sheku Bayoh met the Lord Advocate.
The Police Investigations and Review Commissioner has defended its handling of the Sheku Bayoh investigation.
It follows criticism of the PIRC from Aamer Anwar, the layer acting on behalf of the Bayoh family,
A spokesman for the PIRC said: “At all stages throughout this independent investigation, the PIRC has acted under the direction of the Lord Advocate, who has ultimate responsibility for the investigation of unexplained deaths in Scotland.
“The Commissioner submitted a comprehensive report to the Lord Advocate in August last year in order that he can make informed decisions on any further action.”
Mr Bayoh died after being restrained by officers in Kirkcaldy during May 2015.
Mr Anwar spoke out against the PIRC following a meeting with Lord Advocate James Wolffe QC in Edinburgh on Wednesday.
