Council chiefs say they will step up anti-social behaviour patrols after residents complained about “dreadful” noise coming from flats in Glenrothes.

Locals say they have made dozens of complaints to the local authority and police over incidents at Abbotsford Court.

Issues include loud music being played by residents most days along with claims of threats, intimidation and theft.

Speaking to The Courier anonymously, several people living nearby say they have had enough – and some even want to move elsewhere.

One woman said: “I can’t take another summer of anti-social behaviour and noise if it will be anything like last year.

‘The noise coming from the flats is dreadful’

“The noise of loud music coming from the flats is dreadful. We have to listen to it day in and day out.”

Another woman living in the area says problems began about four years ago and have escalated.

She said: “Residents from one block sit outside playing loud music every day from around lunchtime until 5am the following day.

“My kids sometimes get woken up five to six times a night.

“I’m at my wits’ end. This is beyond a joke. I want out of here before another summer of this level of noise.

“Neighbours have also had things stolen, there’s rubbish everywhere, my kids have been chased with planks of wood with nails in them by children from the block and I’ve been threatened and intimidated when I’ve gone across to say something.

“Over the past two years I’ve made around 80 complaints to the police.

“I’ve also complained to Fife Council on numerous occasions but still nothing gets done.”

Abbotsford Court residents ‘constantly drinking’

One male resident says he is afraid to go out at night.

He said: “If you have to pass (the flats) they are sitting outside with fires, smoking and drinking and playing music which gets louder and louder as the night goes on.”

And one other local says he feels like a prisoner in his own home because of the behaviour.

He told The Courier: “They have a huge amplifier for the music and they are there constantly drinking and playing loud music. We keep complaining but it’s continuing.”

Altany Craik, a councillor for the area, says he is concerned to hear of people’s complaints.

He said: “If it’s being flagged up already we need to do everything we can to support residents who are affected by this behaviour.

“I will be flagging to the council’s anti-social behaviour team to be aware of these concerns.”

Dawn Jamieson, safer communities manager at Fife Council, said: “Anti-social behaviour of any kind is unacceptable and a blight on our communities and we’ll step up patrols in the area.”

Police vow to take ‘robust approach’

Police Scotland confirmed it is aware of problems at Abbotsford Court.

A spokesperson said: “Glenrothes Community Policing Team monitor the local area for anti-social behaviour as part of our community policing plan.

“Officers continue to take a robust approach to anti-social behaviour.

“Thankfully, the vast majority of reported incidents are lower level and fall short of criminality.

“We continue to work with partners in an effort to deter, detect and divert those intent on causing social issues.

“Where instances do occur we would encourage these to be reported to officers via 101 so that we can investigate accordingly.”
