Former Prime Minister Gordon Brown will team up with satirist Rory Bremner in Fife to mark the launch of the politician’s memoirs.
The former Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath MP and the Scottish comedian will take part in a one-off question and answer event in Kirkcaldy next month.
My Life, Our Times is Mr Brown’s candid story in which Britain’s longest serving Chancellor will tell of his life in politics.
The book will provide critical insights into key relationships in the corridors of power in Westminster and will cover global conflicts and the coalition negotiations of 2010 which ultimately led to the Labour politician’s departure from 10 Downing Street.
The tome will also look at the referendum on Scottish independence and Britain’s forthcoming exit from the EU.
Alongside the vivid account of his role in frontline politics during these historic events, the book will include many personal experiences.
These include his upbringing in Kirkcaldy, as a son of the manse while his father was minister at St Brycedale Church.
It also covers the time when the Labour politician’s eyesight was at risk, his university years, and the joys and heartbreak in his family life.
The event, in Kirkcaldy’s Adam Smith Theatre on Friday November 10, will see Mr Brown read from his memoirs.
Mimic and comedian Rory Bremner will lead a question and answer session in which members of the audience will be given the chance to ask their own questions.
Mr Brown, who was Chancellor from 1997 to 2007 before becoming Prime Minister from 2007 to 2010, said: “In sharing my experiences over the past four decades, and the lessons I have learned as a politician, economist, Chancellor and Prime Minister, I hope to shed light on the tumultuous change we are now facing.”
Proceeds from the evening will go to the Cottage Family Centre, where Brown is patron, the Jennifer Brown Research Laboratory set up in memory of his late daughter, and Fife Cultural Trust.
